rice bran oil 也翻譯為米糠油、米油或稻米油，rice bran 就是米糠的意思，這種油是把米糠精煉取得的食用油，台灣早年就有使用，不過由於精煉過程太複雜以至成本過高，很難普及，稱為米糠油也不容易銷售，後來才有玄米油這樣的名稱出現，廠商希望藉此增加銷售量，玄米油有著高冒煙點（約254°C）及富含不飽和脂肪酸、維生素E及抗氧化成分的優點，適合各種料理方式。
